Good afternoon Lake Braddock Band Family,
I hope you are all doing well, staying healthy, and playing your instruments!
I am sure that most of you have received the email update from Dr. Brabrand this week. Marching band is postponed from the fall season. I know this is disappointing to many of you, but I think it gives us space to work. Marching Band was not canceled. We will have some room and latitude to make it work for us. It will allow our band family to stay safe and healthy and gives us a chance to frame marching band in our own vision this year with it only being postponed to revisit for the spring.
I have contacted an audio/visual engineer and we are preparing to put together a video project. We would like to have each of you record the fight song and have it available for our staff planning days, back to school night, first day of virtual school, and to be used throughout the fall for our community and events. It would be similar to the Stars and Stripes Together project we had students contribute to with the Marine Corps Band. I would like our Color Guard to participate as well with their routine!
I’d like to continue projects like this throughout the year using pep tunes and/or other student suggestions to continue to have our band performing together for the community. Directions and a click track will follow in the next days. I have uploaded our fight song parts to Charms Documents for you to download and begin working. This might be a fun project to begin some virtual sectionals with our new leaders teaching everyone the fight song.
I’d like to begin some virtual activities together as well. The purpose is to get ourselves together, come up with our own vision for the year, have fellowship and allow you to provide your voice in our process. Activities will include our meet and greet with our new directors, master classes, sectionals, share fairs, discussions on performance projects, etc.
I encourage you to continue to meet in your sections virtually. These virtual sectionals can help you learn the fight song. We can select more music to send out soon. We are also working on a new subscription to SmartMusic. Please start to think of some fun pieces we might be able to assemble as a group.
Look for another email to come with a schedule of virtual activities ahead. If you have any suggestions for possible activities, please send them to me. We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday night at 5PM in my BBCU classroom to welcome Ms. Pezold and Mr. Gilbert. http://www.lbband.org/band-directors/
Thank you all for your commitment to Lake Braddock and the LB Band.
