FUNDRAISERS

The band program depends on many funding sources made possible by the careful planning and hard work of the band directors, students, and the many band boosters.  The band directors strive to keep band program costs low compared to similar county programs.  There are two basic types of fundraising, general and student account.

BBB Members Felicia Norman (Scrip) and Mawi Nutley (WHO'S) raise funds at the LB Craft Fair

  General Fundraisers
General fundraisers directly support all activities of the band.  Three basic types of general fund raising activities occur each year.

TAG DAY
--Tag Day is the major fund-raising event for the band.  All students are required to participate.  Tag Day is held the first Saturday after the start of school, with the following Saturday as a rain date.  Students wear their band uniforms.  Many volunteers are needed prior to and on Tag Day to help with this event.  The workday ends with a fun pizza party at the school.  Follow this link for more information on Tag Day.

WHITE HOUSE ORNAMENT (WHO) SALES
--The White House Historical Association issues a new ornament every year and offers a limited number of them for sale.  Ornaments will be on sale at the Band Picnic and at other events.  The ornaments are beautiful and often are displayed framed or on easels, not just on Christmas trees.  All Band supporters are encouraged to purchase these collectors' items for friends and relatives.  You can also order ornaments from past years.  Students can earn letter points by participating in this fundraiser.

COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN -- Federal employees can be makecontributions to the Lake Braddock Band Program through the Combined Federal Campaign.  If you want to contribute to us, please designate the Lake Braddock Band Program at your place of employment when you register to contribute to the CFC!  If you want us to know you contributed, under "Recognition Options," please complete your address information to authorize CFC to release your name, and/or send a copy of the form to the Band Boosters c/o the Treasurer.  If you have children in the high school or middle school band, chorus, or orchestra as well as the band, and would like to allocate your contribution, send us a copy of the CFC form and we will allocate your contribution according to your directions accompanying the form.  Our new donation code number for this year is 25827.

 Student and Student Account Fundraisers
These fundraisers make it possible for students to earn money to offset some or all of their personal or Student Officer band expenses during the year.  All of the following fundraisers are open to all Band and Color Guard members.  Profit is allocated to individual student accounts as earned by that student or to the Student Officer account as noted.  Student Account balances are posted in the band room where claim forms are also available (see attached claim form as a Word document.)

CAR WASHES
--The Student Band officers sponsor and arrange car washes that occur at the start of marching band season.  The exact dates are published in the summer newsletter, the band directory, and on this website.   The car washes are usually held at Burke area locations.  All band and guard members are encouraged to participate.  Funds raised are earmarked for the Student officer gift to the band at the end of the year.  Any extra funds also help defray the costs associated with producing the slide shows presented at the Progressive Dinner and Spring Banquet, senior flowers at certain events, and the creation of the annual band photo collage.  Students can earn a letter point if they attend all car washes.

CITRUS SALES, FALL AND WINTER
--The Lake Braddock community looks forward to the band’s grapefruit and orange sales that occur twice a year with deliveries usually in December and February.  The Lake Braddock Band and color guard have been doing business with the same grove stand in Florida for over 20 years.  Orders are taken a month prior to delivery.  Delivery day requires parent volunteers and students to help offload a semi-trailer full of boxed fruit.  Complete details for each sale, along with order forms and tally sheets, are sent home with each student 4 to 6 weeks before the delivery date.  Parents, ask for them in late October and early January if you haven't seen them.  A full explanation of citrus sales is given at Band Booster meetings.

Fall Citrus: Please put the next citrus fruit delivery date, Friday, November 30, 2007, on your calendar and enjoy the taste of summer all winter long. A reminder to the Class of 2007 and Alumni -- If you had some citrus sale customers who would like to continue purchasing fruit, please send Stacy Tanner your information. This year the orchestra and chorus will be joining us in selling fruit. Stacy will be overseeing the sale for all three organizations and needs an assistant to act as a liaison with the band and co-chair. The band co-chair will be responsible for booster meetings, newsletter articles, and most importantly, will arrange for volunteers to help unload the truck and help with the pickup on delivery day. If you can help with this, please call Stacy.
