Students
During the first week of band camp: ALL students sign up, in groups of four, with a designated parentdriver. (Those who do not sign up
during band camp will be assigned to groups.)
On TAG DAY:
7:00 a.m. Students arrive at Lake Braddock, check out uniforms, and receive a safety briefing by Fairfax County Police. (Students are requested to bring a snack to share that will be later be delivered to a Sector House.)
8:45 a.m. Students assemble in their designated groups with their assigned driver and depart for their “Sector Houses”. From there, the
door-to-door solicitation begins. For the next four hours, the Sector House becomes a home base for which the students return for drinks, refreshments,
and a well-deserved break.
1:30 p.m. EVERYONE regroups at the school to turn in uniforms and, more importantly, to enjoy pizza with their Band friends! |
Parent Volunteers
Drivers: The Drivers' primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of their team. Early that morning, the Drivers receive a short safety briefing from a Fairfax County Police Officer and hear a messagefrom the TAG DAY Coordinator. At this time, drivers receive directions to their “Sector Houses,” then gather their team, and are on their way.
At the Sector House, Drivers receive a map and list of streets to be canvassed. They also receive flyers and envelopes for the students to distribute to the homes. While the students' job is to collect donations, the Drivers' job is to focus on the safety and security of the students -- keeping an eye on them at all times. Once or twice during the morning, the teams return to the Sector House, where donations are collected and counted and students are given a brief opportunity to refresh!
Sector House Host: Sector House Hosts meet the Drivers and students (after their safety briefings), distribute maps along with street assignments and supplies, and answer any questions. Sector House Hosts provide soft drinks and water and serve snacks provided by the students. Sector House Hosts collect money from the drivers and reassign streets as needed. Reports go to the school throughout the morning-- status of the teams' progress, amount collected, any needs, etc. Hosts collate the contributions and report their results for their sector to the Tag Day chairs.
Sector House Helper: These helpers remain at the Sector House and assist where needed.
Lunch Helper: Lunch helpers set up and serve a pizza lunch for the students and all Tag Day Volunteers. After a quick clean-up, everyone celebrates the end of a successful TAG DAY!
How to help? Please complete the volunteer sign-up form attached to this newsletter and mail it ASAP. Please call Jacki for more information. Please know that there are no small helpers here…We would not be able to make TAG DAY possible without the help of numerous parents. This is totally a team effort. I thank you all in advance for your generous support of the Lake Braddock Band. |
