Bruin Band Tradition

The history of the Lake Braddock Band is one of continued excellence reflecting the dedication of hard-working students, parents, and faculty.  At a special concert in May 1995, the Sudler Flag of Honor was awarded to the Lake Braddock Symphonic Band.  The Sudler Award identifies, recognizes, and honors high school programs that demonstrate high standards of excellence over a period of several years.  This award is a product of the whole band program, not just one band.  Placement is based on audition results and instrumental balance.Band members are joined by the Color Guard to make up the Marching Band.  This group performs at home football games and competes in area marching competitions.  After marching season, the band begin its concert season.  Springtime offers opportunities to compete in concert festivals.  Records indicate the Lake Braddock Band entered its first competition during the 1977-78 school year, and it has continued to perform in competition and at festivals.  Lake Braddock is the first school in the Commonwealth of Virginia to receive 27 consecutive Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) State Honor  Plaques.  The following list of honors and awards is but a part of the accumulated list of accolades received by these various organizations.
